Russia's Jewish community condemned burning of the New Testament books in Israeli town of Or Yehuda, reports Interfax-Religion.
"It has become a top story in all Israeli papers and I didn't see anything except condemnation there," spokesman for the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia Boruh Gorin told Interfax-Religion.
According to him, when God wants to punish the man "He deprives him of reason." "The Jewish history has always considered books burning as barbarity. And those who forget history are invited to live it anew," the interviewee of the agency said.
Gorin also said that actions of Or Yehuda vice-mayor Uzi Aaron who instructed to collect the New Testament books distributed among local citizens by Christian missionaries were being investigated. Yeshiva students burned down holy Christian books before the local synagogue.
"Israel provides punishment for insulting religious feelings of the believers," the FJCR representative said. He denied the rumors that Israel allegedly banned missionary activities.
"It's disgusting," Chairman of the Congress of Russia's Jewish Religious Communities Zinovy Kogan said to Interfax-Religion correspondent.
