Catholic Cathedral of Moscow welcomes international contest of organists
The third festival-contest Soli Deo Gloria will take place on July 1-5 in the Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Moscow, reports Interfax-Religion.
The festival contest is to represent organ masterpieces of sacred music to wide public, promote works of young composers and organists, acquaint young musicians with Western traditions of playing sacred music, contribute to improvement of contemporary composer school, contest organizers have told Interfax-Religion on Wednesday.
This year, unlike the two previous ones, the contest of young composers precedes the contest of organ players. Students and graduates of organ faculties will play their concert programs including masterpieces of organ music of various centuries while young composers will represent their compositions for organ and organ with choir with melodic tones of Gregorian chorals and texts from the Holy Scripture.
Members of the jury - renowned organists and composers, professors of the best educational institutions of Russia, Netherlands, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and Poland - came to Moscow especially for this occasion and will hold master classes and play their concert programs.
Chairman of the contest jury is Professor of the Rotterdam Conservatory and Cantor of the Lutheran Church in Hague Aart Bergwerff, the jury of the composers contest will be chaired by Professor of the Paris Conservatory, titular organist at Saint-Étienne-du-Mont Thierry Escaich.
